Research for sustainable development
Organic and sustainable agriculture
Governments, policy makers, nature conservation organisations, farmers and businesses face multiple challenges when it comes to achieving sustainability and healthy economic growth: reducing CO2 emissions, cutting pesticide use, preventing soil degradation, tackling lifestyle-related health problems, and so forth. Taking the right steps towards sustainability requires expertise and research. The Louis Bolk Institute provides both, and helps to find innovative solutions for achieving sustainable growth and development.Innovations that work in practice
One of the strengths of our research methodology is its participatory approach. All research projects are designed and carried out in close collaboration with 'the field': farmers, businesses and health practitioners. Furthermore, rather than fixing seemingly isolated problems with partial solutions, we look at problems in their proper context. This systems approach results in comprehensive solutions that lead to a more sustainable agriculture and healthier humans, animals, plants and soils.Covering the entire food production-consumption chain
How to promote sustainable soil use? What are the effects of diet on health? How to improve the market value of organic products? Our research programme covers the entire food production-consumption chain, from soils, plants and animals, to value chain development, nutrition and health care. We do research in the Netherlands, as well as in various African countries such as Uganda and Ghana.Clients and cases Urs Niggli, FiBL Switzerland about the Louis Bolk Institute
