Abstract / samenvatting in Nederlands:

Title in English: The ins and outs of modern hybridization of vegetable varieties: hybrid seeds can be developed through traditional methods or through genetic modification techniques

Abstract / summary in English:

The use of hybrid varieties in organic agriculture is a recurrent topic of discussion, particularly when these varieties have been produced with modern techniques. For example, last spring a commotion arose over the chicory varieties used for organic production in the Netherlands. And this summer German consumers discovered that the organic cauliflowers in their shops are mostly produced from varieties obtained through CMS techniques. What are the pros and cons of hybrid varieties, and why does SKAL accept the use of hybrids obtained through protoplast fusion?
