New organic research centre Nigeria
Agro Eco-Louis Bolk Institute has been contracted to set up a new organic research and development centre in Nigeria. Its' main activities will be to provide training on organic farming and value chain management, to determine potential crops for the export and to carry out market surveys. The centre will also initiate conversion projects.
The project will be carried out from February 2011 till the year 2014 and will be implemented in cooperation with the Olusegun Obasanjo Centre for Organic Research and Development. The first year of the project will be the pilot phase, including the development of an action plan for 2012-2014. The Nigerian Government is the financier of the project. The main reason for them to launch the project is: "Agriculture has continued to remain the basis foundation and strength to the Nigerian economy."
Agro Eco-Louis Bolk Institute has been selected thanks to their unique experience and track record in organic agriculture in African countries, e.g. the EPOPA project. Please download the Organic Exporter Guide that has been published.
