LBI at Integrated Medicine-congresses

The Louis Bolk Institute will present the results of two researches regarding Integrative Medicine at the international ISCMR-congress in Troms¸ (Norway), May 20-22, 2010. Mrs Miek Jong, Head of the Department Health and Nutrition, is responsible for the research design, implementation and overall co-ordination of IM-and CAM-projects within the Institute.

In the first study (in collaboration with the Dutch NIKIM) among health care managers, medical specialists and doctors in health care centers, the main research question is to find out what are the knowledge and attitude towards Integrative Medicine. The second survey (in collaboration with the Antonius Hospital Nieuwegein in the Netherlands) was among paediatricians. Main issue here is to discover their attitude towards Complentary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Recent results show that between 30 and 40% of the patients visiting a paediatrician, use CAM.

Miek Jong will present the results of a third research project on IM at the Dutch conference on Integrative Medicine, organised by the Van Praag Institute and Elseviers Health Care, June 1. In this survey, the nursing staff has been interviewed on their attitude towards IM and their use of it.

For further information about the IM- and CAM-researches of the Louis Bolk Institute, please contact Mrs Miek Jong.
