Mr Pieter van Geel new chairman of LBI

Mr Pieter van Geel MSc is the new chairman of the supervisory board of the Louis Bolk Institute, as from 1 December 2012.

Mr Pieter van Geel MSc succeeds Mr Hanno Niemeijer MSc, whom we sincerely thank for his excellent chairmanship during the last few years. Mr Niemeijer will stay on as a board member for one more year. Mr van Geel from was State Secretary for the Environment (2002-2007). His current positions include among others serving as chairman of the Platform Sustainable Greenhouse Horticulture.

Motivated choice

Mr van Geel is looking forward to start working with our institute:  "During my long career I have met many people who know how things like energy production or sustainable agriculture should work in theory. However, I have met only very few people who know how to actually achieve these goals in practice. The Louis Bolk Institute's practical and participatory approach, their ability to think outside the box, and their vision of the interrelationships between agriculture, nutrition and health have been decisive reasons for me to accept this new position."

As a knowledge institute for truly sustainable agriculture, nutrition and health, we have found in Mr van Geel an experienced supervisory chairman who has thorough knowledge of the subject areas that are important to us. We are very proud that he has agreed to chair our supervisory board, and look forward to a fruitful collaboration.
