New Concept of Health in BMJ
International scientific British Medical Journal publishes new Concept of Health of Huber et al.
The article "How should we define health", published by, among others, Machteld Huber of the Louis Bolk Institute in the British Medical Journal is now the central theme of the cover. Furthermore, it is the Editors' Choice, and also the most read article of this period.
The WHO definition of health as "complete wellbeing" is no longer fit for purpose given the rise of chronic disease, as well as not operational for scientific research. Machteld Huber and colleagues propose changing the emphasis towards "the ability to adapt and to self manage in the face of physical, emotional and social challenges."
