Value chain development
Getting access to green consumers in Europe
International market access for sustainable agricultural products from Africa would greatly contribute to alleviating poverty. But there are numerous obstacles, including the lack of farmer organisation, the high quality requirements for export products, and the logistical challenges of international trade. The Agro Eco-Louis Bolk Institute believes that the key to success is value chain development.
Focus on quality
We enable smallholder farmers to improve the quality of their products and to comply with the strictest requirements set by European importers. Certification programmes, feasibility studies, quality management, helping farmers convert to certified organic production: the result is positive at both ends of the food production-consumption chain. African farmers benefit from higher incomes based on organic production, whereas European consumers can be assured of sustainably grown quality products.
Sustainable agriculture as key factor
We strongly believe that ecologically and socially sustainable agricultural production is the key to sustainable development, particularly in African countries. Sustainable agriculture is a direct and efficient way to improve livelihoods without depleting natural resources. Thanks to our longstanding experience in organic marketing and our close connections with stakeholders, we know exactly how to bring sustainable agricultural products from Africa onto the European market.
